Our Belief in the Inerrant Word of God | GCC Church Garston Watford

Inerrant Word of God

We Believe in the Inerrant Word of God. We believe that the Holy Bible — comprising the Old and New Testaments — is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of God. It is the supreme authority in all matters of faith, doctrine, and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21)

We affirm that the Scriptures were written by human authors who were moved by the Holy Spirit, and that the original manuscripts were without error, perfectly conveying God's revelation to humanity.
(Hebrews 1:1–2; John 17:17)

We acknowledge that, like all ancient documents, the biblical texts have been subject to copyist errors and textual variants during the process of transmission. However, these differences are minor and do not affect any essential doctrines or the message of salvation.

There is no credible historical or textual evidence of deliberate corruption of the biblical texts. Instead, the sheer volume of ancient manuscripts — more than 5,800 for the New Testament alone — and their consistency across centuries provide strong support for the Bible’s faithful preservation.

Thanks to careful scholarly work in textual criticism and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we are confident in the accuracy and reliability of the Bible we have today. (Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35)

We believe that the Bible remains living and active — fully trustworthy and sufficient for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. It is the written Word that reveals the Living Word, Jesus Christ.
(Hebrews 4:12; John 1:1,14)
