House Blessings – Invite God’s Presence into Your Home | Garston Community Church

House Blessings.

"As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." – Joshua 24:15

In Scripture, the home is more than a building—it is a dwelling place for families, fellowship, and faith. As members of the Body of Christ, we recognise that where we live is an extension of our spiritual walk. We therefore offer House Blessings as a sacred act of prayer, dedication, and covering for every home where God's people dwell.

Why Bless a Home?

A House Blessing is a time of prayer and declaration over a physical dwelling, inviting the presence of God into every room, and establishing the home as a place of peace, holiness, and refuge. It is both an act of thanksgiving and of spiritual protection. Just as the early church met in homes and shared life together, we ask the Lord to make our dwellings places of His presence.

Scriptural Foundations

1. God's Presence in the Home: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”
— Numbers 6:24–26

2. Protection & Peace: “My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.”
— Isaiah 32:18

3. Spiritual Authority in the Home: “When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them.” — Luke 10:5–6

4. Jesus in the House: “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.’” — John 14:23

What Happens During a House Blessing?

  • A minister or elder will visit the home by appointment.
  • Scripture is read aloud in thanksgiving and declaration.
  • Each room may be prayed over, anointed with oil, and consecrated to the Lord.
  • The family is encouraged to rededicate their home and lives in the service of Christ.
  • Prayers are offered for peace, protection, provision, and unity.
  • This is also a beautiful time for fellowship and worship, whether in a new home, after a move, or when a family simply desires to invite fresh spiritual renewal into their dwelling.
