What Christian marriage is
We honour holy matrimony as Scripture defines it: a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, made before God and before witnesses. It is more than a legal contract. It is a spiritual union established by God, and an unbreakable agreement until death for both who enter it.
We conduct weddings in accordance with biblical teaching and with the laws of the land, celebrating the joining of a man and a woman into a life-long covenant of love, faithfulness and service to one another under God. There is great blessing in this godly union, and it runs on into the generations that follow.
“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”
The biblical foundations for marriage
Our understanding of marriage is rooted in both the Old and the New Testament. Marriage is a picture of Christ and the Church — a holy, loving and committed relationship.
“What God has joined together, let not man separate.”
Marriage is not ours to dissolve. It is God who joins.
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.”
The standard for a husband is sacrificial love, not authority.
“Let marriage be held in honour among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled.”
Marriage is to be honoured by the whole church, not only by the couple.
Marriage preparation
We offer marriage preparation and pastoral guidance to every couple seeking to enter this covenant. It is a joy and an honour to walk with you as you prepare for a Christ-centred marriage that reflects His love and His truth.
We also advise that both of you have been baptised in Christ before the wedding, and both are bound by the word of God in the covenant you are making.
