Testimony
I left work early on Monday this week, and as I was walking home I stopped to get something to eat. Looking out of the window I saw a car like my mum's old car — and then a woman who looked just like my mum going to the car. In the moment I was so taken aback that I walked across the road towards her — I had headphones in, so I didn't hear what was going on around me — and I didn't realise there was a car coming. I was lifted up onto the car. And nothing — I wasn't hurt. I was completely fine apart from my head hurting a bit. A lady came across the road, helped me up and talked with me, and I even got to speak to the woman who looked just like my mum.
Walking home, my phone was dead, and I was just thinking: I couldn't believe I had come out of a situation that could have ended very differently. I prayed the whole way home, thanking God — it was traumatic and scary, but thank God I'm still here.
At home my headache got worse, so I called a friend — I didn't want to sit in A&E for hours, but I wanted someone with me just in case. She came over and asked, "How are you so okay? I'd be so scared and shaken up." I told her I had prayed about it on the way home and I would be fine.
Now, my friend comes from a different faith — she was born into a Muslim family. In all the years I've known her, she has never wanted to hear anything about Christianity, and in my head I'd always thought: she will never change her mind, the same way I will never change mine. I'd almost stopped myself from talking about Jesus and the Holy Spirit around her, because I thought she didn't want to hear it.
But as we talked she asked, "Where are you learning this stuff from?" I said church, and Bible study, and reading the Bible myself — I keep a journal at home where I write down everything I've learned. I brought it out and she read through it, and she said, "It's so good that people still come to church." And then she said: "I want to come to church." I was so shocked. I tested the waters and asked, "Do you want to do a Bible study with me?" She said yes. We studied provision — how God provided me with protection and good health, and how God is going to provide for her too. And she genuinely wants to come to a service.
It reminded me of another friend I'd been disheartened about — I'd asked the church to pray for her, and then she seemed to stop caring and stopped responding, and I felt discouraged. Yet here was my friend of many years, who had never once expressed any interest, now calling me to talk about our Bible study and asking me to send her a picture of what we wrote down.
So: thank God in everything — because if I hadn't had that accident, she wouldn't have been there. And never doubt God in terms of what He can do. Just because you think someone is too stubborn and will never listen, God will always find a way.
