Cherry Tree Seek First The Kingdom · Sunday 14 June 2026

I want to share a little bit of scripture — Matthew 6:

"Do not worry. Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns. Yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"

I'll stop there for a moment and share, and then I'll finish it.

Last year, when I went to get some cherries from our tree, the birds had eaten them. The birds and the worms. And I was not happy. I think we got about a cupful of cherries. I complained — I was so annoyed. These fat pigeons sitting on the fence, just eating everything.

Then I read this scripture, and I thought, "You know what — the Lord provides for the birds. So we've got this tree, and I need to share with the birds." So I prayed and said, "OK, Lord, I know. We'll share. But next year, please give us enough — for the birds and for us. I don't mind."

This year, we got a proper harvest. I've brought some cherries to church. I've given them to my neighbours, given so many out, given so many away. I thought we'd have more, but I'm giving them all away. So please enjoy the cherries — they're organic.

And then to finish the scripture:

"If God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for today is its own trouble."

Even though the passage is talking about food, "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" — that is every single thing. That is peace, that is love, that is the fruit of the spirit, that is everything you need for your day. Don't worry about anything. He's got you.

I give Him glory, because He gave me a big cherry tree. So I'm thankful.

✠️ FROM THE WORD
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

— John 3:16 (KJV)

What did the Lord say to you while reading this — and what will you do about it before the week is out?
