Testimony
Had a few attacks lately. But it always backfires on him.
I was a bit behind with work because of the rain, trying to catch up. Getting a bit exhausted. I was up at the farm yesterday with a colleague — we were doing well, making some moves up there. He trod on a nail. Big nail, went straight through his foot. So I had to take him to the hospital. He was sick all over me, he was in a bad way. But praise God — they X-rayed it and the nail had somehow missed the vein and the bones. They were able to pull it out.
While this was going on, there was this young doctor — a paediatrician usually working with children. We were talking, and she said, "Children are our future." As soon as she said that, I knew she was a Christian. We got talking and it turned out she goes to the same church as my friend who was having the nail pulled out. He goes to church every Sunday but it's not like he's in the faith — he just goes for his wife. All the way to the hospital I was telling him, "Look at the pain you're in. Imagine what Jesus went through with the nails — for his bones, for his hands." It was making him think.
So this doctor — Pastor was saying recently, "How have you moved? How have you grown in the last six months?" When I first started going on outreach, when people needed prayer I'd drag them over to Kevin or Ashley or someone else. I would never have got up and prayed for myself. So I said to her, "Can I pray for you?" I prayed for her career and her future, for doing God's work. It was quite a long prayer.
When we finished, when I said amen and she said amen, there was a massive amen back. I didn't realise how many people were there listening. One said, "That's beautiful. Can I have a prayer?" Then it was a prayer, a prayer, a prayer, a prayer — none for healing, just for peace. A prayer, a prayer, a prayer, a prayer. That was our day yesterday.
I went back up the farm after he got home. I got home last night and I was shattered. I was really ill. So ill that I couldn't even lift the toothbrush to clean my teeth.
When my wife and I got up this morning, we were both really ill. My eyes were stuck together, both of us had sore throats, blocked-up noses, really ached. And — I always talk about my knees — I knew it was an attack because my knees had gone this morning. I couldn't get down the stairs, they were clicking and clicking. Then this thing came over me: "Just take a day off church. You can wake up late. You can do your garden. You can go up the farm."
I made a covenant with God that I wouldn't work Sundays. So he was trying to break that covenant. But we came to church. I feel fantastic. I knew if I could get to a church, God would wipe it out. So God — the devil will attack, try and stop you. He'll do everything to stop you coming here.
One more thing. A friend of mine I'm quite close to came to see me yesterday. He's only ever gone to church for funerals and weddings. He was brought up in what's supposed to be a devout Catholic household — strong Catholics, yet they never go to church. He was sent to JFK, a devout Catholic school in Hemel Hempstead, for five years.
He came round yesterday morning, 6:30 in the morning, having a chat. I gave him the Bible the church had given him. Do you know — he didn't know who the disciples were. He didn't know who Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were. He didn't know anything about the Bible or how to read it. He didn't know about the apostles. So I went through the books of the New Testament and explained. He didn't know any of it at all. All those years at that school, he just learned nothing. Absolutely nothing.
But he's asking a lot of questions. He found me again this morning. He found me again last night. So I'm praying for him — and I think once he sets foot in here, that'll be it.
