The Receivers · Sunday 21 June 2026

On Sunday nights, some of us go out to meet homeless people on the streets of Watford. Last Sunday, we were the ones who actually received. We haven't usually been the ones receiving — normally we're giving — but this time we were the receivers.

As we were going through the streets, we met a gentleman, one of the regulars. We asked if he'd mind praying for us, as we still had a long night ahead and it would be nice. Now, this is a man who had told us, "I don't really believe in God — God's not for me, but I know He's there somewhere." Yet he sat there, closed his eyes, and began, "Heavenly Father…" He prayed a very short prayer, but we were both completely overwhelmed. We received the prayer, blessed him, and moved on.

Then we met a young man who took some food and said, "Bless you all." At the end of the night he came back again for more, and he still blessed us. It was lovely to see him. A little further along, we passed another gentleman, and out of nowhere — led by the Spirit, I want to say — he told us he was a Christian. We had a lovely, uplifting little encounter and prayed together.

Then we came to a woman walking with two suitcases. On one of them she had written, in big letters, that the Saviour and Judge is soon to return — "Jesus is alive. Please be prepared and ready. God really cares for us all deeply." When we saw that powerful message, we were just melted. Even though her whole life was in those two suitcases and she was looking for somewhere to settle, she carried such peace. She clearly had Jesus in her heart. And when we went to pray with her, she offered to pray for us — that's why I say we were the receivers. At the end she said, "I don't mind homelessness, but I mind people being mean to me." Someone who doesn't mind being without a home, yet cares so much about how people treat one another. I just thought, God, you are so good.

We're so grateful that we get to go and meet these beautiful people and pray for them, because they are wonderful, wonderful people. A bit lost, perhaps — but when they come to God, you can see that they are fine. All glory to Him.

✠️ FROM THE WORD
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.

— Romans 8:28 (KJV)

What did the Lord say to you while reading this — and what will you do about it before the week is out?
